Louis was appointed Vice Chairman and General Director of Standard Chartered Bank (Vietnam) Limited on 1 November, 2010. He is based in Ho Chi Minh City and his responsibilities include: developing strategy, building regulatory, government and client relationships, and driving the bank’s performance in Vietnam.
He joined Standard Chartered in London in 2004, working in Group Corporate Development, which undertakes the bank’s own acquisitions, divestments and other inorganic initiatives. Over the last few years, Louis has worked on deals such as the acquisitions of Korea First Bank, Hsinchu Bank (Taiwan), American Express Bank, and the divestment of the Standard Chartered Mutual Fund (India).
Prior to Standard Chartered, Louis was in Strategy & Development with two industrial companies - BTR plc (now Invensys) and the Cookson Group plc. He began his career in 1990, spending eight years investment banking with JP Morgan in New York and London, working in Loan Syndications, Debt Capital Markets and Mergers & Acquisitions.
Louis has an MA in Law from Cambridge University. He was born and brought up in Newcastle upon Tyne, and attended the Royal Grammar School, where recently he was Chair of Governors prior to moving to Vietnam. In 1995 he founded a charity running music projects in prisons to help rehabilitate offenders, and chaired its Trustee Board.
Louis is married to Kate and they have three children.
